Global Health True Leaders (GHTL) is training on leadership and multi-sectoral collaboration, designed to equip the participants with One Health knowledge and skills to strengthen Indonesia health system and health outcomes. Not only do the participants work together with selected fellow young leaders from various disciplines and countries but they also will work together to solve global health challenges and problems through cultural understanding. This approach will make a sustained impact in their community since our alumni will return to the place where they previously domicile and their organization.

Theme This Year


Located in 3 tectonic plates, including Indo-Australia plate, Eurasia plate, and Pacific plate makes Indonesia vulnerable to have several natural disasters such as earthquake and following disaster. According to Indonesia Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency report, Indonesia has around 400 earthquakes each month. The impact of this massive earthquake killed more than thousands of people, destroyed many buildings, and disrupted railway and road systems. Therefore, this training will promote and raise awareness issue related to health impact, collaboration, and coordination after natural disaster. This training will be divided into 2 main activities including in-class training and fieldwork. In-class training, it will bring up the silent impact after natural disaster issue, adaptive leadership in earthquake condition, also earthquake preparedness, response and rehabilitation plan. Moreover, the fieldwork will learn about community organizing and participatory development in the community after the disaster.

Highlight Events

Global Health and Leadership Training

The participants will be given about the global issues and problems by international and national experts. It will focus on issues that have interconnection among animal health, human health, and environmental health in disaster situation. In this session, not only do the participants will understand about global issues, but they will also learn about how to detect, respond, and prevent those problems together across disciplines.

Local Understanding and Empowerment

Following activity in the class, participants will exercise their knowledge and skill to the real condition in the local area. Participants will have a chance to do fieldwork activity to improve their understanding about culture and implement their knowledge that they have been discussed.  Participants will visit the local community to live in with them and learn their culture directly. This year, participants have opportunity to visit a village that has been rehabilitated after disaster.

Simulation and Discussion

The participants will have an exercise after they got lectures. The exercise can be a role play, social communication practice, and public speaking simulation to improve participant’s skills to speak and share their thinking. Participants will have many roles which have different responsible in different cases in disaster situation.

Cultural Exchange

Participants will have an opportunity to build their cross-cultural awareness skill. Essentially, it means that, as you go about your daily life, you operate with the awareness that cultural differences between yourself and the people you meet exist without assigning them a value. You see our differences as a positive thing, and don’t consider one culture better or worse, right or wrong specially during and after disaster situation.

Participants Requirements

  1. Bachelor students of Faculties: Public Health, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Science, and other faculties which related to One Health
  2. Applicants have taken four semesters in regular bachelor degree
  3. Applicants who graduated from bachelor degree are allowed (note: it should be less than one year after the graduation)
  4. Age maximum is 24 years old
